BJP wins 215 seats unopposed before polling in Gujarat local body elections

Gandhinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured an unopposed victory in 215 seats across municipalities, municipal corporations, and taluka panchayats as Congress candidates withdrew their nominations.

The polling for the local self-governing body elections is set to take place on February 16, and today was the last day for withdrawing nominations. After the withdrawal of other candidates, the BJP won a total of 196 municipal seats across 68 municipalities unopposed before polling day. Similarly, in the 60-seat Junagadh Municipal Corporation, the party won 9 seats unopposed after Congress candidates withdrew from the race.

Four municipalities saw the BJP cross the halfway mark, securing a majority by winning 22 out of 28 seats in Bhachau, 19 out of 36 in Halol, 16 out of 28 in Jafrabad, and 15 out of 24 in Bantwa. Additionally, the party secured 10 seats in Taluka Panchayat and by-elections, bringing the total number of unopposed seats won to 215.

The municipalities where BJP candidates have secured unopposed victories include Botad, Balasinor, Jafrabad, and Upleta. DeshGujarat
