Gujarat Police unveils GP Drashti ; Control room will send Drone at reported place of crime

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Police is set to launch an important project, GP Drashti  i.e. Gujarat Police – Drone Response and Aerial Surveillance Tactical Interventions.

Through this initiative, drones will reach crime scenes faster than PCR vans. State Police Chief Vikas Sahay stated that while the PCR van system is currently available across Gujarat, it takes time to reach the scene of an incident. To reduce response time and enable immediate action, Gujarat Police has decided to deploy drones.

Under this project, when an incident is reported to the police control room, both the PCR van and the drone base station will be alerted simultaneously. As a result, a drone will be dispatched to the scene along with the PCR van.

During a 10-day pilot project conducted in Surat and Ahmedabad, it was observed that drones reached the scene in less than half the time taken by PCR vans—sometimes within just two to two and a half minutes. The footage captured by the drone will be transmitted in real-time to officers at the drone base station, allowing them to assess the severity of the situation and deploy the necessary police force accordingly.

Following the success of the pilot project, the procurement of drones has begun. So far, eight drones have been acquired, with over 18 more expected soon. In the first phase, this system will be implemented in 33 police stations across Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot—cities with relatively higher crime rates. A six-day training program has been organized at Karai to facilitate the project’s rollout.

Once training is completed, the project will first be launched in eight police stations in Ahmedabad. Subsequently, additional drones will be deployed in Vadodara, Rajkot, and Surat as they become available. DeshGujarat
