Ahmedabad to get two new fire stations; AMC to recruit 110 additional fire staff
July 25, 2025
Ahmedabad: With the city’s rapid expansion increasing the demand for faster emergency response, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is setting up two new fire stations in the Gota and Thragad areas, while a new station at Bopal has already become operational.
To meet staffing needs at these new facilities, AMC will soon recruit around 110 additional personnel, including station officers, sub-fire officers and driver-cum-pump operators. The approval to create these posts was granted on Thursday at the standing committee meeting chaired by Devang Dani.
Currently, Ahmedabad has 19 functional fire stations with a workforce of approximately 730 employees ranging from the Chief Fire Officer and Additional Chief Officer to supporting staff. Until now, fire tenders had to be dispatched from Chandkheda and Thaltej stations to cover incidents in Gota and Thragad, leading to longer response times. The new stations aim to improve coverage and ensure quicker responses in these growing areas.
The AMC had earlier sanctioned 796 staff positions across 18 fire stations. In 2024, the civic body also approved the creation of 37 new posts, with recruitment planned in a 67–33 ratio. Once the new recruitment drive is complete, the city’s fire services will have a total strength of about 840 personnel.
The recruitment for the upcoming 110 posts at the new Gota, Thragad and Bopal fire stations will also follow the same 67–33 ratio, which is typically applied for category-wise or gender-wise representation, as per AMC policy. DeshGujarat
