July 26, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Food Department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed seven food business establishments across the city in a special inspection drive carried out between July 13 and July 26, 2025. The action was taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, after officials collected suspicious food samples from various premises and sent them to the Public Health Laboratory for testing.
As per an official press release, AMC’s food safety teams inspected a total of 1,045 establishments and issued 414 notices for various violations during this period. Approximately 748 kilograms or litres of unfit food items were destroyed on the spot. The department also recovered ₹3.85 lakh in administrative charges. Additionally, 1,761 new licenses and registrations were issued, bringing in ₹12.86 lakh in license and registration fees. As part of the inspection process, officials conducted 313 Total Plate Count (TPC) tests to check microbial levels in food.
Among the sealed units was Shri Ramdevji Dalwada near Shah Alam Tollnaka, which was found to be operating with only registration instead of the required license despite being eligible, and was found in an unhygienic condition.
In Motera, Good Bites (Ajay’s) was sealed on July 16 after TPC levels were found to be above permissible limits, along with unhygienic conditions. Another outlet, MS Tawa Fry & Chinese in Sabarmati, was also sealed on the same day due to poor hygiene.
Further action included sealing of Domino’s Pizza (operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd.) in Ghatlodia on July 17, following a complaint about fungus found on a sauce bottle placed on the service table, along with other hygiene lapses.
Sudha Enterprise in Maninagar was sealed on July 22 after a complaint regarding duplicate food products, and because it was operating with registration despite qualifying for a license.
On July 24, Dakshini 24 at Bodakdev was sealed for operating without the mandatory license under the FSS Act and maintaining unhygienic conditions. In the latest action today, Champion Bakery in Danilimda was sealed for violating food safety norms and for keeping raw materials in unhygienic conditions.
AMC officials said these checks are part of a larger initiative to protect public health during the Shravan month festivals, when demand typically increases for farali items, sweets, snacks, ice creams, lassi, fruit juices, dairy products, bakery items, edible oils, ready-to-eat foods, and related raw materials. The civic body will continue ward-wise inspections covering all food business operators, including hotels and restaurants across the city. DeshGujarat
