Ahmedabad: In yet another case of reckless driving in the city, two youths riding an Activa lost their lives late last night when a speeding car allegedly rammed into their vehicle near the Jhansi Ki Rani BRTS bus station in Nehrunagar.
The accident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. when the victims, Ashfaq Ajmeri (22) and Akram Qureshi (35), both residents of Jamalpur, were heading from Nehrunagar towards Shivranjani on their Activa (GJ01PX 9355). At that time, an allegedly speeding Maruti Suzuki Brezza collided with them. The impact was so severe that both men, along with the two-wheeler, were flung several feet into the BRTS corridor after breaking through the railing.
Both victims sustained fatal injuries. Akram died on the spot, while Ashfaq succumbed to his injuries at Sola Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 5:20 a.m. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, the N Division Traffic Police team reached the location. The Brezza has been seized, and a case has been registered against the absconding driver. CCTV footage of the accident is being reviewed as part of the ongoing probe.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the car involved in the accident was allegedly part of an illegal street race. The impact was so powerful that the Activa was broken into two pieces, and the car also sustained severe damage. DeshGujarat
