Ahmedabad civic body to set new SOP for Ready Mix Concrete plants

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is preparing to introduce a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for the establishment of ready mix concrete (RMC) plants within the city. Under the updated SOP, all RMC plants will be required to obtain proper registration and authorization prior to construction.

Notably, in response to complaints about dust and emissions, the AMC had earlier in May decided to relocate all RMC plants away from residential areas to reduce air pollution. The new SOP will explicitly ban the operation of RMC plants in residential zones.

Unauthorized RMC plants found operating in residential areas will be subject to closure once the SOP is enforced.

This initiative follows a similar move by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), which released its first SOP for both on-site and off-site RMC plants within its jurisdiction. DeshGujarat
