AMC to Set Up CNG-Powered Dog Crematorium at Behrampura

Ahmedabad: The Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation today announced that it will set up a CNG-powered dog crematorium (animal cremator) at the ABC Center in Behrampura. The crematorium, to be procured through North East Machine Karmasand Agency at a cost of ₹30 lakh, is expected to be operational within the next four months.

This action is part of CNCD’s various animal welfare initiatives, including vaccination and deworming of stray dogs, registration of pet dogs, veterinary care, and other welfare activities. As part of these efforts, the department has announced that the final disposal of deceased animals will be carried out using scientific methods.

Additionally, a smaller organ cremator, installed six months ago, has been successfully used to dispose of organs collected during neutering operations of stray dogs.

The new dog crematorium will feature a dual-chamber system (primary and secondary), a 30-foot-high chimney, and a temperature range of 900°C to 1200°C. Operated using CNG gas, the facility will be capable of cremating two large-sized deceased dogs simultaneously, producing smoke that is odorless and colorless.

Currently, over 18,000 pet dogs are registered with AMC. Pet owners, who often consider their dogs as family members, will now have access to this facility for the final cremation of their deceased pets.

Depending on the success and utilization of this first facility, the corporation plans to establish additional dog crematoriums in the future to further enhance animal welfare services in the city. DeshGujarat
