AMC seals 35 houses across Ahmedabad; serves notices to over 350
October 21, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken strict action against illegal occupancy in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for low-income families. Following complaints that some tenants were illegally staying in these houses, the AMC Estate Department carried out inspections across 5,611 EWS houses in different areas of the city.
During the inspections, it was found that in 367 houses, individuals other than the allotted beneficiaries were residing. Show-cause notices have been issued to the owners of these 367 houses, and 35 houses have been sealed.
The AMC Estate Department has announced that in the coming days, intensive checks will continue to identify and take action against unauthorized occupants in EWS and other government housing schemes. In many cases, students or employees were found living in houses meant for the original beneficiaries, leading to sealing of the properties and issuance of notices demanding explanations as to why the housing allocation should not be canceled for violating the scheme’s conditions.
