Ahmedabad: Construction of the city’s longest flyover, the 2.5 km Naroda Patiya flyover, has been stalled due to objections from the forest department. To resolve the issue and obtain the necessary clearances, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has proposed allotting replacement land. The civic body’s standing committee is scheduled to consider the proposal on Thursday.

Work on the Rs 197.98 crore flyover was halted because 1.3 hectares of forest land, containing 146 trees, falls within the project alignment. According to forest regulations, the executing agency must not only compensate for the trees cut but also provide an equivalent area of land elsewhere in the state. To break the deadlock, AMC has proposed allocating 1.3 hectares of land in the Isanpur town planning (TP) scheme to the forest department.

The official stated that the project—approved in 2021 as a single flyover replacing three previously planned ones—began in July 2023 and is expected to be completed by July 2026. As of April 1, only 36.8% of the work had been completed.

Alongside the Naroda flyover, AMC has also submitted a second land-exchange proposal involving 13.42 hectares. This pertains to the upcoming iconic road connecting Naroda Crematorium to Dahegam Circle. DeshGujarat
