Ahmedabad Records Season’s High at 44.8°C as Intense Heat Grips Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Gujarat continued to reel under severe heatwave-like conditions on Sunday, with several cities recording maximum temperatures well above normal. According to the latest meteorological data, Ahmedabad emerged as one of the hottest cities in the state on Sunday, registering a scorching 44.8°C, which is 3.2°C above normal. This marks the highest temperature for the city this season so far.

Close on its heels, Amreli (44.5°C), Rajkot (44.4°C), and Gandhinagar (44.2°C) also witnessed intense heat, all recording temperatures above 44°C. The persistent rise in mercury levels across the state indicates strong heatwave conditions prevailing in multiple regions.

Bhuj recorded 43.8°C, followed by Vadodara at 43.0°C and Deesa at 42.8°C, all significantly above seasonal averages. Coastal areas, however, remained relatively cooler, with Dwarka (32.8°C) and Diu (34.5°C) reporting lower maximum temperatures due to maritime influence.

In South Gujarat, Surat logged 41.6°C, which is 4.5°C above normal, indicating a sharp deviation along with rising discomfort and humidity levels due to the city being coastal. Similarly, Porbandar also recorded a high departure of 4.5°C, with a maximum temperature of 39.1°C.

Humidity levels showed a sharp drop in the evening across most inland cities, intensifying dry heat conditions. For instance, Ahmedabad’s relative humidity dipped from 59% in the morning to just 12% by evening, worsening heat stress.

With rising mercury levels, several districts are experiencing conditions close to or meeting heatwave criteria. Authorities are likely to continue monitoring the situation as temperatures remain elevated in the coming days. DeshGujarat
