Sumul Dairy Hikes Milk Prices; Buttermilk Rates Also Up

Ahmedabad: The Surat-Tapi District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, popularly known as Sumul Dairy, has announced an increase in the prices of milk and buttermilk, citing a sharp rise in operational and distribution costs. The revised rates came into effect from May 19.

Under the revised pricing structure, cow milk prices have been hiked by ₹2 per litre, while buffalo milk prices have been increased by ₹3 per litre.

As per the new prices, Gold milk (500 ml) will now cost ₹36, up from ₹35, while Taja (500 ml) will be priced at ₹29 instead of ₹28. Similarly, Shakti (500 ml) will now cost ₹33, marking an increase of ₹1. Cow milk in 500 ml packaging will now be sold at ₹30 instead of ₹29. The price of 500 ml buttermilk has also been raised from ₹16 to ₹17.

In an official statement, Sumul Dairy said operational costs related to milk processing and distribution have increased significantly in recent years. The dairy cited rising transportation expenses, higher packaging material costs, increasing input costs for milk procurement, and a surge in fuel prices, particularly diesel, as key reasons behind the decision.

According to the dairy, the price revision was necessary to offset the additional financial burden and safeguard the interests of livestock farmers associated with its cooperative network. DeshGujarat
