Heavy Rain Likely in Parts of Gujarat; IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts from May 30 to June 3

Ahmedabad: The people of Gujarat have been enduring intense heat amid the peak summer season. Amid this, the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has come as a sigh of relief, as it predicts rain in the coming days. The IMD has issued yellow and orange alerts for thunderstorms and rain in some parts of Gujarat from May 30 to June 3.

As per the IMD bulletin, dry weather is expected to continue across Gujarat till May 29. However, rainfall is likely from May 30 onwards due to pre-monsoon activity and the influence of a western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjoining areas.

On May 30, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Tapi and Kutch.

On May 31, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at a few places in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, while isolated rain is likely in Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dangs, Tapi and Kutch. Additionally, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for isolated places in Aravalli, Dahod and Mahisagar districts.

On June 1, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu. Meanwhile, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for isolated places in Chhota Udepur, Dahod and Mahisagar districts.

On June 2, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu. On this day, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Chhota Udepur, Narmada and Tapi districts.

On June 3, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu.

Furthermore, the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for moderate thunderstorms/lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain and gusty surface winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph in parts of the state from May 30 to June 3.

The weather department also said maximum temperatures are likely to remain above 40°C in isolated parts of Gujarat for the next three days before gradually falling by 3–5°C. Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 44°C on Wednesday.

Hot and humid conditions are also likely to prevail in coastal areas of Gujarat and Saurashtra, along with Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surendranagar on May 28.

The IMD has advised residents in alert districts to remain cautious during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, as strong winds, waterlogging, traffic disruptions and damage to weak structures may occur in isolated areas. DeshGujarat
