Vadodara Plans Four New Flyovers to Ease Traffic at Key Junctions

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has begun planning four new bridges at major traffic-prone locations in the city as part of efforts to ease congestion. The proposed bridges are planned at Alkapuri, Sussen Circle, Soma Talav Circle and Gotri Yash Complex Circle.

VMC has started preparing designs and preliminary cost estimates for the four projects. The move comes as the city continues to face traffic congestion at several major junctions, particularly during peak hours.

The proposed Alkapuri bridge is expected to address multiple issues, including traffic congestion near the railway station and Circuit House, as well as waterlogging at Alkapuri Garnala during the monsoon. VMC has also started the process of seeking the required permission from the Railway Department for the project.

A bridge is also being planned at Soma Talav Circle to ease congestion for vehicles entering the city from the highway. Similar projects are proposed at Sussen Circle and Gotri Yash Complex Circle, where traffic movement has increased in recent years.

The new proposals come as work on six other bridges is already underway in Vadodara. It is learnt that the bridge on Sama-Savli Road is expected to be completed by January 2027, while the remaining five projects are likely to be completed by December 2027.

The civic body is looking to expand Vadodara’s network of flyovers and bridges to improve traffic flow and reduce pressure on major roads. Cities such as Ahmedabad and Surat have expanded their flyover and underpass networks in recent years, helping address congestion at several busy corridors.

Once the proposed projects move beyond the planning stage and are completed, VMC expects them to improve connectivity and provide motorists with smoother movement through some of the city’s busiest traffic corridors. DeshGujarat
