ICG Ship Meera Behn Decommissioned at Okha After Over Two Decades of Service

Okha: Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Meera Behn was decommissioned with full Armed Forces honours at Okha Port, marking the end of more than two decades of distinguished service to the nation, the Ministry of Defence stated in a statement.

The decommissioning ceremony was presided over by DIG Manjeet Singh Gill, Commander, Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 15 (Okha), and conducted under the command of Commandant (JG) Thinkal Tharakan.

The ceremony featured a Guard of Honour, the final hauling down of the Coast Guard Ensign and the lowering of the Decommissioning Pennant, marking the vessel’s formal retirement from service.

Built by Goa Shipyard Limited, ICGS Meera Behn was commissioned on July 25, 2006. The vessel belonged to the water-jet propelled Extra Fast Patrol Vessel (XFPV) class, known for its speed and operational agility.

The ship was named after Meerabehn, a devoted disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and a prominent figure in India’s freedom movement. The vessel’s name reflected a legacy of selfless service and commitment to the nation, said the Ministry of Defence.

During the ceremony, DIG Manjeet Singh Gill paid tribute to the ship and its crew for their yeoman service in safeguarding India’s maritime interests over more than two decades. DeshGujarat
