Injustice to Gujarat in Railway Budget:Gujarat Govt

Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 3 July, 2009

In the Railway budget 2009-10, central Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee has proposed Rajkot-Viramgam track, Hapa-Veraval and Gandhidham-Kandla double lines works. Ahmedabad-Mumbai non stop train and proposed development of Ahmedabad and Porbandar Railway stations, are two new welcome steps in the budget.

weekly,linked,parcel etc. are new trains

Among 57 new regular trains announced, Gujarat has got four trains: Gandhidham-Howrah Super fast train is a weekly train, means just once in a week. It seems that this train has also been announced keeping in mind the people of West Bengal who needs to come to Gandhidham for employment purpose. Another train ‘Veraval-Mumbai daily’ which has been announced as a ‘new train’ in the budget is actually just a ‘link service’. One train Hapa-Tirunelveli is superfast and will be operated twice a week. Another one train is vapi-tughlakabad parcel train. Two new trains Mumbai-Jodhpur weekly and Mumbai-Jodhpur-Bikaner, bi-weekly will pass from Gujarat. Another train Mumbai-Jaipur Garib Rath which passes through Gujarat has been extended to Delhi in north.

Frequency increase for 2 Gujarat bound trains

The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee has announced increase in frequency of 13 trains of the country including two Gujarat bound trains.

According to the budget announcement, frequency of 2957/2958 Ahmedabad-New Delhi Rajdhani Express has been increased from 6 days to daily.

Frequency of another Gujarat bound train 2905/2906 Porbander-Howrah (via Hapa) has been increased from 2 days to 3 days.

Extension to one train of Gujarat

The Minister announced extension of 27 trains among which, Gujarat has got extension of only one train. 9269/9270 Porbandar-Bapudham Motihari has been extended to Muzaffarpur (Bi-weekly).

Gujarat govt. criticizes the budget

Meanwhile the Gujarat Government has lodged strong protest against alleged injustice to Gujarat in Railway budget. Gujarat government spokespersons Minister Jai Narayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel said, this budget is one more example of injustice that the state faces. Ministers said, Gujarat’s ports are gateways for whole north-west India, but in today’s budget, issue of Port-Railway connection has been ignored.

“Gujarat had demanded 16 new trains, 9 gauge transfers, extension of 9 trains and 10 new railway tracks. Not a single ladies special train has been allotted to Gujarat. Somnath, Dwarka, Junagadh, Dakor are not included in multi-function railway complex. Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet train is nowhere in the budget. The budget has ignored Gujarat government’s demands about coal linkage and salt workers development,” Ministers said.

“Extension of Kolkata Metro Rail has been mentioned in the budget but, Ahmedabad has been deprived. There is nothing in the budget to address Ahmedabad’s longstanding demand for Metro Rail. Gandhinagar is the only state capital in the country which is not connected with New Delhi. There is nothing on this in the budget. Gujarat Tourism’s Palace on Wheels train was snatched away in the name of gauge conversation problem. Now we demand this train and the Railway Ministry is completely silent on this issue in the budget,” Vyas and Saurabh Patel added.

Gujaratis must not expect too much from Ms Momta Bannorjee. She has not forgotten asylum given to Tata Motors. Taking away Palace on Wheels is just a way of stopping tourists going to Gujarat. Now lets wait to see if the proposed internal Gujarat Flights are approved.

  2. Dr. Parth Mehta says:

I don’t understand this. From last so many years, we all have been hearing about injustice to Gujarat whenever the railway budget comes out. Understood that whatever demands we make, all of them can not be fulfilled but they should not ignore at least reasonable demands. If we don’t get bullet train right now, that is fine but ignoring demands for trains to ports and tourist places is bad. They may have their own reasons to deny it but those reasons should come into light. The only solution to this problem is to have either a Gujarati Railway Minister or to have someone completely unbiased person who doesn’t discriminate based on which party is ruling in which state.

It is not a matter of development of Gujarat only, it is a matter of development of nation and there should be no discrimination.

Similarly I would also like to see which other states are complaining because it is not only us who were not given trains. There may be few other states also. If BJP is the ruling party in those states also, we will see a fixed pattern. But before putting allegations on someone for injustice, try to know the reasons why those demands were not met and also try to find out if there are similar demands from other states which were rejected or not.

Where are you Shaktisinh baapu ? Throw some light on it ?

All bloody congi neta will disappear now.

  5. ignoreme says:

Is it injustice,or, a little bit justice ?!
Accepted that Gujarat is developing fast – does it mean that only this state’s all demands must be allowed ? Don’t you think that other states should also get fair share ?
Yes, if a train is pulled out,or sponsorship terminated, etc., one can understand the injustice. Simply them not being BJP does not mean injustice every time.
If Gujrat Govt feels grave injustice – prove and stop the transfer of ‘lagaan’ to Central Govt !
Think openly and wisely – at times, just justify own stand.
Criticizing every time looses the grip, we believe.

  6. kunal says:

Rajkot-viramgam double track project was proposed in 1988 since then no approval from Railway Ministry, i dont understoand why they do this with us? Currently more then 60 trains running daily-weekly basis from Rajkot to other places of country, passenger having trouble between Rajkot – Viramgam as there only single track. Now Railway must do something fast and aggressivly for people

  7. mayur says:

we had gujarati minister of state for railway, Mr Naran Rathwa. what he did?? nothing? basically we gujaratis do not have the courage to think about state of gujarat first even when we are sitting on high post. we had minister of state for petroleum mr dinsha patel. what he did? still we are cribbing for gas royalty. such is not the case with ministers from bengal, bihar, maharashtra or kerala which have a very strong regionalistic feelings irrespective of party affiliations.NDA was in power along with BJP in gujarat, still we could not pull the train connectivity for gujarat ports from central govt. on the other hand gujarat is getting dumped with train connectivity from god forsaken place in bihar, bengal UP,etc which brings all the pollutants into our state and creats law and order problem. In this case it is done for facilitiation of employment of outsiders into our state. So unless we gujaratis does not change our mind set nothing is going to happen. We are so lazy and happy go lucky persons that we do not know what is going on in the rest of our country. we do not care for govt. jobs, we do not care for our own jobs in gujarat snatched away by non gujaratis,we do not care for jobs in public sector cos outside state or even within our own state, etc etc so what can be expected form gujaratis when such kind of injustice is met. Had it been other states than a big hue and cry would have taken place. Where are these congressi ministers from gujarat in the current cabinet? are they hiding like a dog keeping tail between its two legs.
