16.75% people in Gujarat are living below poverty line

According to survey carried out by central government in year 2004-05, Gujarat’s 16.75% people fall in below poverty line(BPL) class.
This was revealed by Union minister V Narayan Sami in parliament while replying Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani’s question. According to minister 46.37% people of Orissa, 40.35% of Jharkhand and 5.43% people of Jammu & Kashmir fall in below poverty line segment. Minister said 28.3% people were found in below poverty line class in rural areas and 25.7% people in below poverty line class in urban areas according to survey.
