Shahpur riot spreads, wall city markets closed amidst tension

After brutal murder of Vijay Datania by group of Muslims in Shahpur area, communal riot today spread to nearby areas of wall city in Ahmedabad.
Police lobbed tear gas shells in Rentiavadi area to disburse angry Hindu crowd returning from Vijay Datania’s funeral. Hindu crowd attacked a Muslim near Delhi Chakla. Hindu Crowd also protested against police for their inaction and soft stand against rioting Muslims. Meanwhile, two Hindu peons of City Civil Court in Mirzapur were stabbed while returning from court by Muslims. Muslims set two bikes belonging to Hindu shop keepers on fire in Delhi chakla area. Soon after this, the shopkeepers shut down the markets in Shahpur, Delhi chakla, Dariapur, Mirzapur, Relief road and Lal Darwaja areas.
There was almost ‘one way traffic’ in the evening when every Hindu wanted to come out from the wall city. And then in an hour or so, all roads in wall city were silent. Even Ashram road was almost without traffic in late evening.
