JD(U) BJP workers clash in Bihar over Modi’s poster
Patna/Ahmedabad, 5 July 2010
Clashes between local BJP and Jannta Dal(United) workers sparked off after BJP workers shouted Narendra Modi Zindabad slogans holding Modi’s poster and banner in their hand and Janta Dal(U) workers, most of them Muslims opposed this move in two different incidents at Patna and Bhagalpur in Bihar.
Workers of both the parties were initially united on road in Patna’s Dak Bangala Chauraha area to ensure success of nationwide bandh against central government. The bandh was also successful like every other part of the country.
However when a group of BJP’s youth workers brought Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s poster out, the JD(U) group led by local leader Monazir Hassan took objection. This resulted into verbal arguments between both groups. JD(U) workers also manhandled some BJP workers. Later on BJP workers burnt effigy of JD(U) leader Munazir Hassan.
Similar incident also took place in Bihar’s Bhagalpur where BJP workers were out with Narendra Modi’s banner. Here a group of JD(U) workers, most of them from party’s students wing literally tried to snatch the banner.
Meanwhile reports coming in that Munazir Hassan supporters burnt Narendra Modi in effigy.
