“Teesta is not cooperating with the investigating agencies”

“Teesta is not cooperating with the investigating agencies”
Ahmedabad, 25 May, 2011

Controversial NGO operator Teesta(Javed) Setalvad, an accused in the 2006 Pandarwada case in which bodies of post-Godhra riot victims were exhumed four years after they were buried by district administration, is not cooperating in the probe, the state government told the Gujarat high court.

The activist has been accused of conspiring to exhume bodies of post-Godhra riot victims in 2006 by five other accused in the case who have given statements against her under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Teesta Javed had approached the high court for quashing of the FIR against her in the case. Justice GB Shah, hearing the case, has reserved the order on Teesta’s petition for May 27.

Opposing Teesta’s plea, government pleader PK Jani contended that investigation was still on in the case with regard to Teesta, who was not cooperating with the investigating agencies.

He said that Teesta did not appear before the investigating officer in the case despite summons issued several times. Jani further contended that there was no bias against Teesta, who has already obtained anticipatory bail in the case.
