ACP to probe forceful affidavit complaint against Bhatt

The investigation in the FIR filed against controversial IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has been transferred to NC Patel, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ‘B’ Division of Ahmedabad police. The FIR has been transferred to Patel.

Former assistant intelligence officer Karansinh Panth had filed a complaint against Bhatt in Ghatlodia police station last week

Panth’s complaint says, “I was on duty at Meghaninagar police station, when Bhatt called me and asked him to come to his house in the night. Bhatt told me that the amicus curiae was in Gandhinagar and I had to file an affidavit saying that the SIT had taken his statement forcibly”.

When the cop refused to do his bidding, Bhatt threatened him that within two months the state government would collapse and the chief minister would be arrested. He claimed to be in touch with central government and state Congress president Arjun Modhwadia. Bhatt then took him to Modhwadia’s house and he too convinced him. He says that later he was taken to a notary staying close to the Gujarat High Court where he was made to sign an affidavit. The drafting continued till early morning. Panth claims he was not allowed to read it before signing it. However later he took a copy of affidavit which he gave to the Ghatlodia police station. The police has booked Bhatt for criminal intimidation and illegal detention and forcing a statement out of him.

If found guilty Bhatt can be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
