Ahmedabad, 8 October, 2011

Representatives of Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service(IPS) officers association today evening visited suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt’s house near Manav mandir to meet his wife Shweta Bhatt. Sanjiv is presently in Sabarmati jail under judicial custody.

Three IPS officers who visited Bhatt’s family were Pravin Sinha(Rajkot range IG), VM Parghi(border range IG), and Atul Karwal(Ahmedabad police)

All three officers and wife of one of the officers visited Bhatt family in GJ-12-1234 car of VM Pargi. They spent over an hour at Bhatt’s place and came out, but didn’t talk to media.

At this point, it is not clear what was the agenda of talk between IPS officers and Bhatt’s family. However NGO operator Shabnam Hashmi told media persons that Shweta Bhatt told her that 35 IPS officers met today afternoon and took decision to extend support to Sanjiv Bhatt’s family.

It is interesting to note that all three officers who visited Bhatt family are from 1988 batch. Sanjiv Bhatt was also from same batch.

In the meeting of the IPS officers association today afternoon a resolution was passed saying that a permanent DGP needs to be appointed in place of in-charge DGP in the state.

“The association has passed a resolution for filling up the post of DGP instead of having in-charge DGP,” sources said.

Chitranjan Singh is in-charge DGP of the state at present.

The association also appointed Deepak Swaroop as the new president.
