Lawyer briefs the court in detail about Modhwadia’s role

Arguing on behalf of police on Monday in Ahmedabad rural court, lawyer SV Raju described Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia’s alleged role in Sanjiv Bhatt case elaborately.

During hearing on Bhatt’s bail plea, Raju told the court that Sanjiv Bhatt being a police officer went to opposition leader Modhwadia with complainant Karansinh Panth. Raju raised a question why a police officer should go and meet opposition party’s leader?

Raju further said that Mr. Modhwadia talked thrice over a phone call with advocate Kanera during that night and SMS was sent at 3.00 am. Raju said all records are available to validate this detail.

Raju said this clearly shows Mr. Modhwadia’s involvement in this serious offense of fabricating wrong statement forcefully in murder case.

Raju raised questions like what was the need to take a witness to Modhwadia’s house? What was the content of talk between Modhwadia and Bhatt during that 15-20 minutes? Why Panth was introduced to Modhwadia?

Raju presented history of Sanjiv Bhatt’s alleged crimes and opposed his bail.

Major points

-Police has the record of phone calls made between Modhwadia and the advocate, VH Kanara who had allegedly notarized Panth’s affidavit under Sanjiv Bhatt’s alleged pressure.
-Modhwadia had made three calls to Kanara after midnight at intervals of 2 to 3 minutes.
-Modhwadia had also sent message to Kanara at around 3 am to which Kanara had replied.
-There is possibility that the calls were made to influence and threaten Panth to sign affidavit and to ensure that the work was done.
-The primary investigation in this regard has revealed according to Raju that Modhwadia was equally involved as Bhatt in Panth case.
-According to Raju, Bhatt and Congress leader forced Panth to file an affidavit with political motives against Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
