Fueled by rumors, worker groups clashed within the Kanalus labour colony near Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)’s Jamnagar refinery site at Moti Khavdi village under Meghpar police station of Jamnagar district on Thursday.
“The situation is under control. However, the police had to resort to tear gas shelling to disperse the mob,” police officials informed. On its part, RIL too issued a statement on the incident.
“On account of Ganesh Chaturthi and Vishwakarma Pooja, the construction work at Reliance Jamnagar site was shut. Meanwhile, a labour died due to heart attack in the residential area near Kanalus Village. However, there were rumours that he died in a road accident. As a result of misunderstanding a large number of labours started gathering and started damaging vehicles. In the wake of situation going out of hand of the local security, the police were called, which fired tear gas shells and fired in air to disperse the crowd,” the company stated.
