Ratan Mahal sanctuary is 55 sq km in area. There are 30 prescribed points where persons will be positioned for counting purpose. Jambughoda sanctuary is 130 sq km in area where persons will be deployed at 25 prescribed points.
The month of May is considered best for counting of wild animals as there is scarcity of water in jungle and animals would come to drink water at fewer places where it is available. During the full moon night animals are easily visible at places where water is available.
