The Minister of State for for Commerce and Industry today met the Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, with whom she discussed the project.
“Indian Institute of Packaging will be set up here. It will conduct research on international-standard packaging materials. Industry in Gujarat will get certification from the IIP without the need to go to Mumbai,” she later told reporters.
“The institute will also provide training and post-graduate diplomas. It will be set up in a phased manner..
With the state government’s support we will be able to do it in five years,” she said.
“There is an Indian Institute of Packaging in Mumbai at present, but Gujarat needs its own because it is an industrially advanced state, especially in chemical, pharmaceutical, marine, and food products which require international-standard packaging for export,” she said.
Chief Minister Anandiben Patel said the state would offer 25 acres of land for the institute for free. Location is yet to be decided.
“We will begin work from a satellite campus from next academic year,” she said.
