India moving ahead on path of development: Bhagwat
Nagpur:India is moving forward for the last two years and people have confidence that it will do well, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today said as he cautioned the opposition and critics against endangering the “emotional integration” due to political interests.
“The country is seen to be moving ahead on the path of development with policies which have dispelled the despair that existed earlier,” he said, endorsing the Modi government which came to power in 2014.
In his over-hour long speech, he also made a strong push for inexpensive education as it is a tool to empower society.
The wait for a new education policy has been long and it was high time now that it should bear fruits.
A report in this regard has been submitted, he noted and said it was for the government to see if its recommendations will bring about desirable changes in the education system or not.
With RSS often criticised by opposition for allegedly working to regulate the education policy, he said the Hindutva organisation was for having an independent education system which should be run by the society.
It, however, also has the danger of commercialisation of education and the government’s intervention is required to keep it at bay.
Bhagwat also mentioned during his speech on the RSS’ 91th foundation day the names of social and religious figures like Abhinavagupta, Ramanujacharya, Gulabrao Maharaj and Sikh guru Gobind Singh as he asked people to follow their ideals.
On the occasion, he also quoted renowned Urdu poet Iqbal’s famous lines, ‘Kuch baat hai ki hasti mit ti-nahi hamari…’, to hail Indian civilisation which, which he claimed, is also Hindutva.
RSS chief lauds Army for surgical strikes
Nagpur: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today lauded the army for carrying out surgical strikes, saying it has enhanced India’s prestige in the world and given the message to trouble-makers that there is a limit to its patience.
The ongoing unrest in Kashmir, tension on the border and the issue of cow protection, which has brought BJP much flak, was the focus of the annual Dussehra address of the RSS chief, who vowed to root out social discrimination.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, he said the situation there is of concern and said the commitment of our leaders that the whole of the state, including PoK, belongs to India is good.
“What is needed is that this strength of statement is reflected in action as well,” he said.
“Under our government, the army has recently given a befitting reply. The army’s and India’s prestige in the world have gone up. The trouble-makers have been given this message that there is a limit to patience… The one (Pakistan) which has been inimical to us is getting isolated. We are delighted with the valour shown by the army,” he said.
The whole world is aware that the subversive activities constantly promoted from the across the border are mainly responsible for disturbances in the Kashmir valley, he said.
With thousands of RSS functionaries in their new uniform of dark brown trousers instead of khaki shorts in attendance, he said the “firmness and efficiency shown in the matter of diplomacy and defence should permanently reflect in our policies”.
“A level of perpetual co-ordination and co-operation is needed among in the defence forces and intelligence agencies as we have to pay a heavy price for a moment’s distraction,” he said.
Bhagwat also stressed on the need for maintaining a strict vigil on maritime boundaries as well as frontier areas and said the government and administration should engage the locals to stop infiltration from across the border.
Nagpur:RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today strongly backed “countless good people” working lawfully for cow protection and said they should not be compared with those creating trouble in its name, remarks that come against the backdrop of BJP facing flak over anti-Dalit violence by cow vigilantes.
“Countless good people are working for cow protection.
The Jain society is totally devoted to it. These good people are working within the ambit of law and Constitution…
Administration should see to it that those creating trouble should not be compared with cow protectors.
“There should be a distinction between the two. Trouble- makers try to separate this distinction and create a big nuisance,” he said.
He was speaking at the annual Dussehra event at the RSS headquarters.
Violence by some cow vigilantes targeting Dalits and Muslims had hit headlines weeks ago, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to denounce them, saying 80 per cent of them are involved in anti-social activities and running shops in the name of cow protection.
Bhagwat said if some incidents happen, then the government should enforce laws against those involved in them.
Apparently referring to flogging of Dalits by cow vigilantes in Una in Gujarat and similar incidents of violence, he said such incidents are shameful and should never happen.
There are some flaws in our society and there is discrimination as well, he said, adding that it is exploited by certain elements for their benefits.
Defending cow protection, he cited the directive principles of the Constitution also speaks in its favour and many states have laws, which have been there for long, in support of cow protection.
There is also law against cruelty to animals, he said, adding that cow protectors have agitated peacefully for the enforcement of these laws. “They have tried to work within the law.”
On the occasion, Bhagwat also pledged that RSS will work to root our discrimination in society and cited a survey done in the parts of Madhya Pradesh to say that 30-40 per cent people suffer from discrimination in getting water or entry to temple.
“The Sangh has taken up the work of increasing social harmony. It will take time but we will rest only after rooting out this discrimination,” he said.
