DBT for fertilizer subsidy scheme will end black marketing: Mandaviya

Rajpipla (Gujarat): Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya today said that government was moving in the direction of direct benefit transfer (DBT) for fertilizer subsidy, which was currently to the tune of Rs 85 thousand crores per year, in the accounts of the farmers .

On the occasion of the inauguration of the pilot project of the central scheme of direct benefit transfer (DBT) for fertilizer subsidy in Gujarat in the headquarter town of Narmada district, Rajpipla today Mr Mandaviya said that the direct transfer of subsidy would end the black marketing of fertilizers.
‘By connecting the soil health
card with the DBT scheme, a farmer will also be able to know as to what kind and amount of fertilizer was actually needed for his field. This will also increase the production of the farmer and the health of the soil and at the same time decrease his cost by preventing the unnecessary use of chemical fertilizers. This scheme can be termed as an architectural example of good governance,’ the minister said.

He also showed a live demonstration of the DBT pilot scheme on the occasion.

The central scheme is being started on experimental/pilotl basis in 16 districts across the country of which two Narmada and Morbi are in Gujarat.
