Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress in-charge and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that to speed up the procedure of selection of candidates of the party for the crucial assembly elections in the state to be held by December this year, the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) would soon be formed.
He also said that the party would not put forth any ‘face’ as chief ministerial candidate for the polls.
Gehlot, also the national general secretary of Congress, claimed the PEC was going to be announced ‘anytime’. He said the party is also awaiting AICC secretaries reports. The formation of PEC would ensure the start of formal candidate selection process.
Gehlot said that after the PEC, the screening committee for selection of the candidate would also be formed. Gehlot admitted that the party would have to do some re-adjustment for selection of candidates as earlier all the sitting MLAs were to get tickets but of the 57, 14 including Shankersinh Vaghela resigned.
Gehlot also categorically said that the party would go to polls without projecting anyone as a Chief Ministerial candidate. ‘Our focus is to win the election. We won’t project any CM candidate. Chief Minister’s are decided by the legislature party after the election,’ he said.
He also said that after the parting of Shankersinh Vaghela and his men from Congress, there was no problem or faction in the party.
