Leopard chases cat, both fell in well, achieve compromise during rescue

Junagadh:
In an interesting incident, a leopard and a wild cat fell in to an over 70 ft deep farm-well in Baradiya village in Visavadar taluka of Junagadh district today while the big cat was chasing the wild cat.

Both the beasts were later rescued but what was even more interesting was that the leopard which was earlier chasing the cat to kill it for eating did not attempt any attack on the poor beast while the two were being rescued.

Forester of Mendarana Range M K Gohil said that some of the labourers sleeping in the vadi (farm) of one Mansukhbhai Vaghasiya on the outskirts of the village informed the forest department about the incident. They said that the two beasts fell in the 72 ft deep water filled well while the cat was being chased by the leopard which had strayed in to the farm from nearby jungle where a large number of leopards live.

While being rescued the two beast sat side by side quietly on the rope tied cot which was lowered in to the well to pull them out. The leopard was later caged and sent to a nearby animal care center. The cat which fell down in the well again owing to imbalance of the cot was later again pulled out.
