Prant officer whose circular mentioned Gujarat assembly election date admits mistake

Prant Officer cum election officer of Gondal assembly segment here, whose circular regarding appointment and training of Zonal and Assistant Zonal Officers with ‘date’ of Gujarat Assembly Election, had caused lot of embarrassment to the administration, D A Zala today said that the error was basically a clerical one and his ‘mistake’ was that he singed and issued the circular without noticing it.

Notably Zala had on August 19 had issued a notification for the customary appointment and training of such officials for the polls the date of which was yet to announced by the election commission but the document showed the date of election as December 10.

In the circular which announced the appointment of such officials for free and fair conduct of polls of 73 Gondal assembly segment and called them for a training session in local seva sadan on August 24, became viral in social media yesterday.

This prompted Rajkot collector Vikrant Pandey to ask for a clarification. However looking at the so far good record of the Prant officer he took a lenient action after which Zala only issued an amended order yesterday deleting the date which was just a formality for records.

Zala today admitted his mistake and said that he would never sign a document without checking all the facts twice.
