India can beat China in job creation with 100% focused approach: Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat

Vapi (Gujarat):

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today said that India can beat China in employment creation if the government adopt a 100% focused approach for it.

He also urged the government to increase expenditure in health and education sector and to give more autonomy to institutes like IITs to make them a 21st century knowledge hub which could compete with world-class institutes like Harvard university and MIT and pave way for creation of more such institutes in India.

Rahul, who resumed the 3rd leg of his Navsarjan Gujarat Yatra in South Gujarat this evening after a break to visit Raebareli in the wake of the NTPC boiler explosion incident, during his interaction with the traders and other intellectuals in Vapi city of Valsad district said that the country was facing three main problems in the form of poor state of Education, Health-care sector and employment generation.

‘Of these the biggest problem was about employment creation. We have main competition with China owing to our similar population structure and not with smaller countries like France and Germany. But we were creating only 450 jobs per day as compared to 50 thousand of China. This was causing unemployment in the country and slowly rising anger among youths which if not addressed in time may cause serious problems for the country. Today we see made in China tag everywhere and not made in India but it is not that we can’t compete with China. We can create 70 thousand jobs per day as compared to their 50 thousand but that needs a focused approach. The government rather than taking up 50 things at a time must focus 100% on the issue of job creation. It should select the Industries which can create jobs and prioritize it,’ he said.

Rahul also said that by complete privatization of education, the motive becomes profit which was detrimental. The government institutes should maintain the high quality to give a competitive environment to private institutions. ‘The problem in Gujarat is that 90% of the educational institutions have been privatized and 15 thousand government run institutes have been shut down. This has broken the back-bone of education system. In education and health sector government must increase its expenditure as this is an investment for the future of the country,’

‘Today the best of our educational institutes like IITs and IIMs were from public sector but to make them world class which can compete with Harvard university and MIT, these must be converted in to knowledge network center from knowledge transfer center. IIT is an exceptional institution but to make it a global knowledge hub the government must soften its grip on their management by giving more autonomy to them. This way India can also create many world class educational institutions,’ he said.

Rahul also said that affordable health-care for poor and needy people can be a reality if the government work for that on priority basis. He claimed that Congress government in various states in the past as well as present including Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and in Rajasthan had shown that.

Earlier the Congress vice president had also interacted with ASHA workers in Dharampur and addressed a rally in tribal locality of Nana Pondha in Vaslsad district. He had alleged that BJP governments have not done justice with the tribal populace.
