Spell of good rain in parts of Gujarat continuing for the third consecutive day, likely to take a break for 3 days

Ahmedabad: Even as another spell of good monsoon rain continued in parts of Gujarat on third consecutive day today, rain has occurred in 82 talukas of 26 districts by 6 pm this evening with Wadhwan in Surendranagar getting maximum 58 mm.

Met department has said that the spell of rain would weaken causing only light to moderate rain for the next three days after which due to emergence of another cyclonic circulation, another spell of heavy rain would take place mainly in Southern Gujarat from July 26.

In the last 24 hours ending 6am today a total of 179 talukas of 32 of the total 33 districts saw rain with Dharampur in Valsad district seening the maximum of 83 mm. Among the other prominent rain receiver talukas were Kotadasangani in Rajkot district 76mm, Chikhli in Navsari 75mm, Lilia in Amreli 74mm, Visavadar in Junagadh 70mm and Tankara in Morbi 66mm, Bayad in Aravalli 65mm, Malpur in Aravalli 64 and Rajkot city 63mm.

 

 

Today from 6 am to 6pm, Gir Gadhada in Gir Somnath district was second highest rain getter taluka with 49mm. Patan got 47mm, Dhoraji in Rajkot district 45 mm and Jetpur 38mm.

In last 3 days the state has seen over 3% of the total average monsoon rain taking the total figure to over 27% now.

IMD center Director Jayant Sarkar said that ‘s upper air cyclonic circulation over North Central Maharashtra and neighbourhood extending up to 5.8km above mean sea level tilting south westwards with height still persists. This has caused the moderate to heavy rain during last 2 days and today. From tomorrow it would weaken somewhat and there would only be light to moderate rains for next 3 days. However after that due to another cyclonic circulation there would be spell of heavy rain.
