Narmada canal discharging 60 cusecs of water daily in Vadodara’s Ajwa lake
May 28, 2022
Vadodara: Vadodara’s historic Ajwa Sarovar has begun receiving 60 cusecs (146 million liters) of water daily since May 23, 2022, through the Narmada canal. The Ajwa Sarovar supplies drinking water to the eastern and southern parts of Vadodara city.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had, during his visit to the city last week, announced that the Ajwa lake will receive the said quantity of water daily till June 30, 2022, or till such time that freshwater doesn’t arrive in the lake in the form of rains.
The level of water in the Ajwa lake is currently at 206.40 feet but if it drops below 204 feet, it could lead to water scarcity. The quantity being received daily through the Narmada canal is the same as the quantity Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) supplies to the city from Ajwa lake every day.
The VMC will have to pay Rs 4.69 for every 1,000 liters of water Ajwa received through the Narmada canal. DeshGujarat.
