September 02, 2023
Ahmedabad: A complaint was registered with the city’s cyber crime police by a 36-year-old woman entrepreneur who alleged that an AirTag, a compact tracking device, was placed in her car for the purpose of stalking her. Now, the police have identified a business rival as the responsible party.
According to the complaint, the complainant, a real estate developer residing in Krishnanagar, was driving to her office on June 27 when she received a notification on her iPhone stating, “AirTag found moving with you.” This notification reappeared the next day on June 28 and then again on June 29, prompting her to inquire with her driver. The driver clicked on the notification, which produced a message stating, “Your current location can be seen by the owner of this AirTag.” Realizing that she was being stalked, she submitted a complaint application to the Cybercrime police on July 1.
The complainant then had her car thoroughly inspected at a service station in Bopal, where she discovered an AirTag concealed within the cover of the passenger seat, secured with tape. On July 8, she retrieved her vehicle from the service station, but the device was no longer present in the car.
A Cybercrime police officer stated that an individual acquainted with the woman had placed the tracking device in her car with the intention of monitoring her movements. The police have since apprehended the accused party.
