Scammers create duplicate website for echallan; Police file complaint
September 03, 2023
Ahmedabad: Fines can be paid at echallan.parivahan.gov.in for violating traffic rules. This site is official site of Govt. But some scammers have almost copied this site with a few changes and adopted a new method of fraud. The gang has created a site called echallanparivahan.in and people are asked to pay the e-memo fine. Many people have been caught depositing money on this fake site and a complaint has been registered at the cyber crime police station.
According to the complaint filed by ASI Yogendra Singh of the Police Control Room of the Police Commissioner’s Office, under the Smart City Project running in Ahmedabad, photographs of motorists who violate traffic rules are clicked from CCTV camera footage and sent to the National Information Center. A link is then sent to the motorist who violates the rule under One Nation One Challan to pay the fine.
Scammers have started cheating people by creating sites like government sites. The gang collects the information of motorists online and then sends a fake link on WhatsApp. Sometimes court action is also threatened if the driver does not pay the fine. This modus operandi of fraud came to the attention of the police and eventually a complaint was filed. It often happens that people do not realize that they have been cheated even after paying the fine. As the fine amount is also 100, 200 or 500 rupees, people refrain from complaining.
