Race for opposition leader: Congress councilor of AMC files complaint over acid attack and murder threat
September 04, 2023
Ahmedabad: The issue of the candidacy for the post of the opposition leader in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has reached the police station.
Rajshree Kesari, a Congress corporator from Chandkheda ward, has filed a police complaint at Chandkheda Police Station. She in her complaint reported receiving a threatening phone call in which she was warned of an acid attack if she did not withdraw her candidacy for the position of opposition leader in the city civic body.
An audio clip containing abuse directed at the female corporator has also gone viral.
The term for various offices in the AMC is expiring next week. There’s apparent rivalry among Congress corporators to get the offices within the opposition party group for the next two and half years term.
A complainant alleged that municipal councillor Kamlaben Chavda called her and informed her that some derogatory posts on social media were put regarding her by Imtiyaz Sheikh and Jamshed Sheikh.
When Rajshriben opened the social media accounts of Imtiyaza and Jamshed, she found certain comments on her. Later she realized that Imtiyaz was calling her using various phone numbers and issuing threats that she needed to back off from claiming the post of the leader of the opposition or she would face acid attack and she would be murdered. Rajshriben has also alleged that the accused hurled abusive words and castist slurs for her being a woman from Schedule Caste.
Rajshriben eventually filed a complaint against Imtiyaz and Jamshed Sheikh. DeshGujarat
