Retd. Justice K. J. Thaker appointed as Gujarat SHRC chairperson

Gandhinagar: Justice (retired) Kaushal Jayendra Thaker has been named as the chairperson of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission. He will serve as chairman for a period of three years starting from the day he takes office or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever occurs first, an official statement said on Tuesday.
The appointment was made based on the recommendation of a committee comprising the Chief Minister, the Legislative Assembly Speaker, and the state’s Home Minister.
K. J. Thaker held the position of Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat from May 2013 until April 2016, after which he was transferred to the Allahabad High Court, where he served until his superannuation last week.
Furthermore, Bharatkumar Suryakant Upadhyay, a retired principal district judge, has been designated as a member of the SHRC. Upadhyay will also hold this position for a duration of three years or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever comes earlier. DeshGujarat
