SMC plans expansion of SMIMER due to increasing footfalls

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has planned Rs 250 crore expansion of SMIMER Medical College in Surat.
Rs 136.45 crore will be spent on building a 600-bed hospital building at SMIMER, while Rs 118.71 crore for a new educational block. Each of two buildings will have 10 floors.
One of the buildings will have a 600-bed hospital with facilities including emergency and casualties, operation theatre, ICCU, MICU, dialysis, blood bank, and special rooms. The existing hospital has a capacity of daily OPD of 750 to 1000 patients. The new infrastructure is planned considering footfalls of 2500 to 3,000 patients daily.
The new hospital building will have 632 general beds, 56 ICU beds, and 10 dialysis beds. Another building will have an educational block with various department OPD, departmental offices, lecture theatres, council hall, small group teaching facility, genome sequencing lab, skill lab, and so on.
