Gujarat Medical Council suspends license of a Gynecologist over deaths of mother and child

Mahesana: Gujarat Medical Council has suspended the license of Kadi based gynecologist Dr. Harshil Patel.

On 26 June 2022 a woman patient was taken to Dr. Patel’s hospital. As he was not present, a patient was given injection as per the telephonic instruction by Dr. Patel.

The women had given birth to two children earlier through operations and therefore she had conveyed clearly that the third delivery this time shall also be possible through operation only. However the delivery was conducted without operation, following which a new born child died. The mother also went critical and she was taken to Bhagyoday hospital where she died.

A demand was raised for action against the doctor over this tragedy. A committee was formed consisting doctors of GCS, NHL and LG hospitals. The committee in its report opined that if operation was done for delivery of child, she could survive. The license to operate of doctor has been suspended for six months. DeshGujarat
