September 16, 2023
Jamnagar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) nabbed a customs superintendent and his associate in Jamnagar on Wednesday for accepting a bribe from a customs agent based in Gandhidham.
According to the CBI statement, the accused officer, Nitin Sharma, previously served as an inspector and dock examiner at Mundra Port from July 2022 to July 2023. Following his promotion, he was transferred to Jamnagar. However, even after the transfer, Sharma allegedly continued demanding a bribe from Abhay Singh, a customs agent in Gandhidham. This bribe was sought in exchange for facilitating the clearance of goods imported or exported by Singh’s clients through Mundra Port.
Singh also alleged that Nitin kept pressuring him to pay an amount of Rs 7 lakh. In response to these allegations, the CBI set up a sting operation and caught Nitin’s accomplice, Shubham Sharma, while he was taking Rs 2 lakh as a bribe at Nitin’s direction. DeshGujarat
