Attempts to divide Kadva – Leuvas; Congress candidate’s brother behind anonymous flyers

Rajkot: The main opposition Congress party has taken the route of sub-caste divide in an attempt to win the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat. While BJP candidate Parshottam Rupala is Kadva Patel by caste, the Congress candidate Paresh Dhanani is Leuva Patel by caste. Dhanani and Congress are trying to divide the two subcastes of the Patidar (Patel) community to get votes. flyers titled “Jago Leuva Patel Jago(awake, Leuva Patels awake)” were distributed on a home-to-home basis in the Mavdi area of Rajkot city this week.
As such activity was noticed by the local BJP, a police complaint was filed in Taluka police station. Based on CCTV footage and further probe, five persons were identified as accused in this case. One was Ward President of the Congress party, while others were Congress workers. All five were arrested and produced in court. They were released on bail later.
Those arrested were Congress party’s ward president Ketan Tala, Youth Congress Secretary Deep Bhanderi, city Congress general secretary Prakash Vejpar, and Congress cadre Vipul Tarpara. CCTV footage of them distributing such flyers on home to home-to-home basis at around 11.30 pm in the Mavdi area has gone viral. When Crime Branch Police Inspector MR Gondaliya-led team probed further, Sharad Dhanani’s name was revealed as the key person involved in this crime. Sharad Dhanani is the brother of Rajkot Congress candidate Paresh Dhanani. Police are in search of Sharad Dhanani in this case.
