Gandhinagar: A special CBI court in the state capital on Monday sentenced one Vidhya Sagar Acharya, who was the Senior Assistant Financial Advisor (Construction) in Western Railway, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs. 75,000 in a bribery case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case on March 19, 2008, following allegations that Acharya had demanded an undue advantage from the complainant to process his bills for work completed. Acharya was arrested on March 20, 2008, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000.
The CBI filed charges against Acharya on April 29, 2009, for demanding and accepting illegal gratification and criminal misconduct. After a trial, the Special Judge for CBI Cases found Acharya guilty and imposed the sentence. DeshGujarat
