Kadi MLA Karsanbhai Solanki passes away
February 04, 2025
Gandhinagar: Karsanbhai Solanki, a legislator representing the Kadi assembly seat in North Gujarat, passed away after a prolonged illness of cancer. He was admitted to the Ahmedabad-based Civil hospital where he passed away. With this, the state assembly now has two vacant seats (the other vacant seat is Visvadar, for which a by-election is not taking place due to a pending court case). The passing away of Solanki would result in a by-election for this seat within the next six months. The Kadi seat is reserved for only Schedule Caste (SC) candidates.
68-year-old Karsanbhai became popular in his constituency with the nickname Kaka. He was born on January 1, 1957. Son of Punjabbhai Solanki, Karsanbhai passed the fourth standard from Nagarsan Primary School in 1972 and later dropped out of his studies. He won the Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections in 2022, defeating the Congress candidate by a margin of 7,746 votes. Solanki was a simple, non-corrupt person. He would be seen using the state-run GSRTC bus to reach the state assembly instead of his own car, despite being a ruling party MLA.
Expressing grief over Solanki’s demise, PM Modi tweeted, “The news of the demise of Gujarat Assembly member Shri Karsanbhai Solanki is shocking. He will always be remembered for his simple life and the selfless service he rendered for the welfare of the underprivileged. Prayers for the peace of the departed soul and condolences to the grieving family…Om Shanti…!!”
