Former IPS officer Kuldeep Sharma get 3 months in jail in 40-year-old assault case

Kutch: The Bhuj Sessions Court today sentenced former IPS officer Kuldeep Sharma to three months of imprisonment after finding him guilty in a 40-year-old assault case.

On May 6, 1984, Congress leader Abdullah Haji Ibrahim went to meet then-SP Kuldeep Sharma regarding a case in Naliya, where he was allegedly insulted. A heated argument broke out, escalating the situation. During this, Kuldeep Sharma called his fellow officers, who then assaulted Ibrahim.

The case dates back to 1984 when Congress leader Abdullah Haji Ibrahim, also known as Ibhala Sheth, along with other leaders, visited the SP office regarding a case registered in Naliya. During this meeting on May 6, it was alleged that then-SP Kuldeep Sharma insulted Ibhala Sheth, used abusive language, and called his fellow officers to beat him up. As a result, Ibhala Sheth sustained injuries. At that time, Shankar Govindji Joshi, who was part of the delegation, informed Kutch advocate M.B. Sardar and filed a complaint against the SP and four other accused in the Chief Judicial Court of Bhuj.

Following this, a complaint was filed against four individuals, including then-SP Kuldeep Sharma. Two co-accused, PSI Bishnoi and B.N. Chauhan, have since passed away, while the third accused, policeman Girish Vasavada, has also been found guilty. DeshGujarat
