AMC plans ₹42 crore sports complex in Ghuma as Ahmedabad eyes 2036 Olympics
July 07, 2025
Ahmedabad: As the city positions itself as a potential host for the 2036 Olympic Games, authorities at both the state and municipal levels are ramping up efforts to strengthen Ahmedabad’s sports infrastructure. In a significant move, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has proposed the construction of a mini sports complex in Ghuma at an estimated cost of ₹42 crore.
Following the precedent set by AUDA (Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority), the AMC’s plan includes the development of Olympic Village-style mini sports complexes across various parts of the city. In Ghuma, the AMC has identified a sizable plot under the Town Planning (TP) scheme, and a tender worth ₹41.92 crore submitted by Malani Construction has been accepted for the sports complex project. The proposal is now awaiting committee approval. The complex will include modern facilities such as a swimming pool.
Meanwhile, residents of the Chandlodia ward have long lacked access to recreational and sports amenities. Addressing this, the AMC has also approved a ₹8.88 crore tender for the construction of a swimming pool and gymnasium in the area. This proposal has also been placed before the Road Committee for consideration.
The AMC’s initiatives are part of a broader vision to ensure Ahmedabad is equipped with world-class sports infrastructure. These developments aim not only to support the city’s Olympic aspirations but also to promote fitness and athleticism among residents. DeshGujarat
