Morbi Ceramic Industry Hikes Tile, Sanitaryware Prices; New Rates Effective June 1

Morbi: Facing mounting cost pressures following sharp increases in gas, diesel and raw material prices, the Morbi ceramic industry has announced another round of price hikes across key product segments. The revised rates will come into effect from June 1, industry sources said.

The decision comes after the industry had already increased prices by 15–20 per cent during May in response to rising production costs triggered by the escalation of tensions in West Asia and the subsequent surge in energy prices.

At a meeting of the ceramic association held on Thursday, manufacturers unanimously decided to raise the prices of GVT (Glazed Vitrified Tiles) by ₹5 per square foot from June 1. The association also resolved to maintain a minimum base price of ₹32 per square foot for GVT tiles.

In a separate move, sanitaryware manufacturers have officially announced a 10 per cent increase in prices across all sanitaryware products, citing the continued and unsustainable rise in raw material costs. The revised prices will be applicable to all dispatches and loadings from June 1 onwards.

The industry has also introduced significant changes to its trade policies. Under a newly announced payment policy, all orders will now be processed only against 100 per cent advance payment with immediate effect.

The new payment terms will apply to all fresh sanitaryware orders as well as custom fabrication work, the association said. Industry stakeholders said the latest measures were necessary to offset the growing burden of higher input and transportation costs, which have continued to impact manufacturing operations in Morbi, one of India’s largest ceramic production hubs.
