Ahmedabad: After experiencing a brief spell of relatively cooler weather for nearly three days, Ahmedabad has once again come under intense heat conditions. On Thursday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 43.2°C, around two degrees above the seasonal average, signalling the end of the temporary respite from the scorching summer.
Meanwhile, Surendranagar emerged as the hottest city in the state with a maximum temperature of 43.5°C. Rajkot recorded 42.7°C, followed by Kandla at 42.6°C and Amreli at 42.3°C.
Although some parts of Gujarat had witnessed a slight drop in temperatures due to changing local weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the cooler phase has now ended. Ahmedabad’s minimum temperature was also recorded above normal at 27.8°C, which was 1.1 degrees higher than the seasonal average.
According to the IMD forecast, temperatures in Ahmedabad are expected to remain around 43°C on Friday, after which the mercury is likely to rise gradually by another 2-3 degrees across several parts of the state.
The IMD stated that maximum temperatures are likely to remain above 40°C in isolated parts of Gujarat over the next seven days. From Saturday onwards, heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in parts of North Gujarat, Central Gujarat and some areas of Saurashtra.
A yellow alert has been issued for Monday and Tuesday, during which Ahmedabad is likely to touch 44°C as heatwave conditions intensify across North and Central Gujarat.
Authorities have advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and stay hydrated amid the rising temperatures.
