Ahmedabad Food Safety Drive: 22 Samples Fail Quality Tests, 7 Units Sealed, 4.2 Tonnes of Stock Seized

Ahmedabad: In a major push towards public health and food safety, the food wing of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Health Department conducted extensive inspections across various city zones under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Between May 1 and May 18, 2026, the department inspected 865 food business units, issued 522 notices, and collected ₹5,35,200 in administrative charges.

Out of the 572 food samples collected during the drive, 22 were found to be non-compliant, with seven declared “unsafe” and 15 classified as “substandard.” Legal action is being initiated against all violators, the official press release said.

The AMC also seized a total of 4,218 kg of food stock worth approximately ₹10.91 lakh. The seized items included 2,500 kg of turmeric powder, 1,400 kg of cashew pieces, 219 kg of paneer, and 99 kg of mava.
