May 18, 2026
New Delhi: The first visual preview of India’s proposed bullet train for the Ahmedabad–Mumbai route has been unveiled at the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi.
An image showcasing the country’s first planned high-speed bullet train has been put on display at Gate No. 4 of the Ministry of Railways building, according to news agency ANI.
The ambitious Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will span 508 kilometres and connect 12 stations: Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex), Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the ₹1.1 lakh crore project at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad in September 2017. Earlier last year, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India’s first bullet train service is expected to begin operations by August 2027.
Speaking at the inaugural Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference at Ganpat University in Mehsana, Vaishnaw said the project was progressing rapidly, particularly in Gujarat. He noted that major work, including wire duct installation and girder placement, had been completed, while track laying and electrical work were underway. He also said Japan’s Minister Nakano had recently visited Gujarat to review the project’s progress.
The high-speed rail corridor will include eight mountain tunnels. Seven of these, with a combined length of 6.05 kilometres, are located in Maharashtra, while Gujarat will have one tunnel stretching 350 metres. DeshGujarat
