May 20, 2026
Ahmedabad: Bopal police arrested two foreign nationals from the Shantigram area near Vaishnodevi Circle for allegedly staying illegally in India even after the expiry of their visas. A case has been registered against the duo under the Foreigners Act, and further investigation is underway.
The arrests came during the probe into a previously registered NDPS Act case, when an Assistant Sub-Inspector from Bopal police station found the two individuals suspicious during an intensive investigation. Following verification of their passports and visa documents, police discovered that both had overstayed and were residing in India unlawfully.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed alias Rick Abdi Omar, a Tanzanian national, and Mercy alias Sandra Adamba Ingdwa, a Kenyan citizen.
Police said Mohammed had entered India on a medical visa, while Mercy had arrived on an e-tourist visa. However, despite the expiry of their visas, neither informed local police authorities nor contacted the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), as required under regulations.
Investigators said the two had been staying in the Shantigram area in hiding. Bopal police have initiated legal proceedings and are also probing whether the accused had any links to other suspicious or anti-national activities.
Officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether the duo was involved in any other illegal activities during their stay in India. DeshGujarat
